Bort-les-Orgues is, indeed, a picturesque town which has the particularity of sheltering a remarkable geological curiosity which gave it its name, the Orgues. From its center, you can admire these volcanic cliffs which majestically overhang it for almost 2 km. Formed more than 15 million years ago, shaped by time, these gigantic columns of basalt rock 80 to 100 meters high, constitute an astonishing ensemble which is reminiscent of the pipes of an organ of church. This famous natural site, whose summit reaches 789 meters above sea level, is also exceptional for the breathtaking panorama it offers over the town of Bort-les-Orgues, the Dordogne valley and the Auvergne mountains!

But Bort-les-Orgues has another unmissable tourist attraction, its huge hydroelectric dam with its large water reservoir of more than 10 km² (13th largest artificial lake in France) in the middle of which sits the Château de Val, renowned for its exhibitions of paintings and as a setting for many film shoots. In season, cruises with commentary on panoramic launches are proposed on Bort-les-Orgues lake.

Less than 30 km from the ***Logis Central Hôtel there are many remarkable sites for lovers of nature and heritage: the highest peak in the central massif, the Puy de Sancy; the Saint-Nazaire site and its panorama over the Dordogne and Diège gorges; the verdant Natura 2000 site of the Gorges de la Rhue; the picturesque medieval town of Salers; the medieval castle of Auzers with its view of the Monts du Cantal; the spa town of La Bourboule… to name but a few…
